Feature Film and Documentary

I began my journey as an editor while I was still in film school by working with my editing instructor on finishing one of her short films. I then started working with her on various features as an assistant, before moving on to editing my first feature. I’ve been lucky enough to work with brilliant award-winning directors Steve James, Luke Holland, Nick Broomfield, and Nicholas Brown, helping them to bring their creative visions to life. I have a real love for films and hope to be adding more to this page soon.

  • A Film About Studio Electronique (2022, Director: James Taylor)

A Film About Studio Electrophonique is the story of unsung hero of the Sheffield music scene Ken Patten and his Studio Electrophonique, located in the downstairs extension of a council house in a working-class suburb. He provided a space in the late 70s/early 80s for some of the city’s finest to hone their craft, including The Future, (forerunners of Clock DVA and The Human League), Vice Versa (forerunners of ABC) and Pulp, but was virtually unknown in his hometown.
I shot the interview with Adi Newton (The Future, Clock DVA) which was part of this film.

  • The Serengeti Rules (2019, Director: Nicholas Brown, Passion Pictures/Passion Planet/HHMI Tangled Bank Studios)

'The Serengeti Rules' introduces five scientists who study the "keystone" species whose populations keep entire ecosystems in balance. It won awards at 16 different festivals, including an Emmy for Outstanding Nature Documentary. Although I was a mere finishing editor on the film, I was quite proud of my involvement as it was such a beautiful, moving and important film.

  • Battle For Haditha (2007, Director: Nick Broomfield)

An investigation of the massacre of 24 men, women and children in Haditha, Iraq allegedly shot by 4 U.S. Marines in retaliation for the death of a U.S. Marine killed by a roadside bomb. The movie follows the story of the Marines of Kilo Company, an Iraqi family, and the insurgents who plant the roadside bomb.

I was Second Editor on this film, and spent several months on location in Jordan to bring this film to first cut. In addition, I managed the Arabic translators and also sourced the title track “Lies, Lies, Lies” by Ministry.

Battle for Haditha was presented at the Toronto Film Festival on September 11, 2007. Nick Broomfield won the Silver Shell award for Best Director at the San Sebastian Film Festival on September 29, 2007. It was also presented at the London Film Festival on October 30, 2007.

  • Albert Maysels - The Poetic Eye (2006, Director: Luke Holland, ZEF Productions)

I worked alongside director Luke Holland (Final Account) as editor on this film exploring the artistic processes of filmmaker Al Maysles who, along with his brother David, were an American documentary team recognised for their work in Direct Cinema. Their best known films include Salesman, Gimme Shelter and Grey Gardens. It premiered as part of the Channel 4 series Storyville.

  • Stevie (2002, Director: Steve James/Kartemquin))

I was an assistant editor on this film by Steve James (Hoop Dreams), in which he returns to rural Southern Illinois to reconnect with Stevie Fielding, a troubled young boy to whom he had been an “Advocate Big Brother” ten years earlier.

It had 7 festival nominations and 5 wins including the Amsterdam International Documentary Film Festival and the Sundance FIlm Festival.

  • Even Trade (2004, Director: Michael Merrill)

Power and money come between childhood friends when one wants to become legitimate. I was the sole editor on this Chicago based independent film.

  • The Rest of Your Life (2001, Director: Hans Noel

It's Friday afternoon, and Dave McGuiness has a problem. Last night, his longtime girlfriend, Karen, told him that she wants to get married. She'd like an answer by Monday, but Dave's not sure he's ready to propose.

I was assistant to Editor Suzanne Suffredin on this Chicago independent comedy film.

  • Under the Bus (2000, Director: Ashby Richardson/Atom Bomb Productions)

Friendships between 4 men go awry when drugs and money are involved. Starring Bob Marley (Boondock Saints). I was assistant editor to Stephen Flynn on this Chicago independent drama feature film.
